Full Time - 40 hours per week

Job Outline:

To provide professional advice, guidance and support to operational and line management in order to maintain good order and discipline of the Prison.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the effective deployment of staff to ensure the security of the prison and meet operational requirements.
  • Co-ordinate all security and control measures in line with security instructions within the prison ensuring that all departments are aware of their responsibilities.
  • Control all incidents and occurrences within the prison to ensure the security of the prison and prisoners including the completion of relevant documentation.
  • Monitor and maintain control of all aspects of prison routines in order to meet contractual and legal requirements and security instructions ensuring all incidents are reported correctly and documentation is completed accurately.
  • Monitor the movement of all prisoners both internally and externally in an effective manner so as to maintain security within the prison at all times.
  • Control the use of C&R and other forms of restraint to ensure that correct procedures are followed.
  • Implement where necessary an effective Assessment, Care in Custody and Teamwork (ACCT) system and Violence Reduction system to minimise suicides, self-harm and bullying within the prison.
  • Manage the discharging process ensuring that all prisoner discharges are actioned in accordance with operational instructions.
  • Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture to achieve and maintain recognition as a British Safety Council 5 Star business unit.
  • Coach and support staff on a day-to-day basis to maximise their performance and ensure values, ethical standards, equality and diversity, policies and procedures and contractual requirements are met.
  • Deploy staff to ensure searching within the establishment meets the set targets in accordance with the local Security Strategy and monthly statistics are produced
  • Manage & deploy effectively staff within the operational support group and dog handling, as per the relevant operational and security instructions Manage the availability of the pool vehicles.

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in a custodial environment

 

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience of monitoring service delivery and meeting short term objectives
