G4S is contracted by The Scottish Prison Service to provide all court custody and prisoner escorting services in Scotland. The seven-year contract, which commenced in January 2012, includes the escorting of all prisoners in mainland Scotland and islands, between prisons, police stations and courts as well as all external visits, including hospital visits.

G4S has eight bases across Scotland and routes add up to approximately 13,000 miles travelled per day. We have a fleet of over 140 specialised vehicles and employ around 750 employees on the contract.

Job Outline

The successful candidate will support the Regional Manager in the management and operation of vehicle base or a group of courts, providing advice and support to employees working at the location to meet operational and business plan requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate, monitor and coach employees in order to develop and improve their skills so that customer expectations are fully met and to ensure commitment to inclusivity and the maintenance of appropriate behaviour and conduct.
  • Ensure that the service is delivered on a timely basis, including planning for contingencies, in order to meet and wherever possible, exceed contractual obligations and ensure compliance with KPIs.
  • Establish effective written and verbal communications to all levels ensuring that all relevant information is processed and disseminated both accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the formulation of local procedures for areas of responsibility in line with company policy and procedures ensuring their implementation and adherence at all times.
  • Organise, allocate and deploy resources within areas of responsibility to achieve contractual compliance and manage the time and attendance system to ensure accurate recording of hours for payment and absence management.
  • Liaise with all external agencies as required, ensuring that contractual issues are resolved and mutual understanding and co-operation is achieved and maintained.
  • Identify, organise, monitor and, at times, deliver appropriate training to employees within areas of responsibility.
  • Monitor and advise on Health & Safety policies, oversee risk assessments and conduct security audits to ensure a safe and secure working environment is provided for employees and prisoner welfare within areas of responsibility.
  • Monitor operational usage of PAC’s to ensure the accurate and timely capture of data.
  • Conduct investigations as required to ensure that issues are thoroughly examined and resolved and relevant standards are adhered to.

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Skills

  • Supervisory experience of managing and developing a team
  • Experience of implementing and applying procedures related to contract compliance

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system
  • Experience of monitoring service delivery and meeting short term objectives
  • Understanding of company’s purchasing procedures and systems.
