Team Leader - Children's and Welfare Service

Gatwick IRC - Tinsley

£28,000.00 per annum, plus £3,000.00 on call allowance

Full Time - 40 hours per week

As the largest private provider of Immigration Services for the UK Border Agency (UKBA), G4S is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for people being detained due to their immigration status. Our Contract locations are situated near Gatwick Airport and can accommodate just under 600 male/female detainees with an ever changing population.

As part of our continuing development, we’re now looking for confident and approachable team players who are committed to providing a high quality service for the people in our care.

Job Outline: 

Provide welfare support to families, ensuring effective service delivery and welfare standards are achieved and maintained.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Welfare support to children, young people and families in our care, ensuring that welfare standards are achieved and appropriate interventions are applied
  • Plan and supervise age appropriate play for children in line with legislative, contractual and best practice guidance
  • Plan and prepare for a families arrival and departure (return or resettlement) in line with contractual requirements and best practice
  • Actively support and encourage the returns process, including encouraging discussion of return with children, in order to reduce anxiety and barriers to removal
  • Ensure the safeguarding of both adults and children, in support of child protection procedures and best practice guidance
  • Work with delivery partners, including children’s services, health agencies and other community-based services to deliver an effective service to families in our care
  • Build and create mutual trust and respect with trainees in order that they respond and react appropriately to information and guidance.
  • Act in accordance with company and legislative requirements to maintain a safe and secure environment

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Skills: 

  • Experience within a welfare or childcare setting

Desirable Skills:

  • Understanding of the legislative framework and contractual requirements in respect of childcare
  • Ability to speak a second language
