Job Introduction:

This is an exciting opportunity to join a small but growing team who provide mission critical services to Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and City of London Police Forces. The services are provided by the G4S team who are based at Lincolnshire Police HQ in Nettleham. This is a full time position for 40 hours per week.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support for applications used by the business. The role will be responsible for diagnosing issues to determine underlying problems, providing fixes or workarounds and escalating problems to third party providers if necessary.

There is a requirement to write and develop scripts, routines and small application systems to meet business requirements. The successful candidate will also implement these developed solutions and take responsibility to identify and action further improvements.

Alongside this the successful candidate will act as a conduit to the business for solutions scoping. This will involve communicating effectively with the business to ascertain solution requirements using business analyst skills. The role should always be examining workflows and processes and use creative thinking to define new effective approaches.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for documenting fixes, solutions and requirements in a concise manor to aid knowledge transfer and corporate memory. The role focuses the majority of it time (approx. 60%) around application support, 30% around developing scripts/fixes/apps and 10% around business analysis.

It is essential for an individual appointed to this post to create and maintain positive communications to ensure effective working relationships with individuals, teams and colleagues.

Role Responsibility:

  • Uses software development knowledge of languages such as MS    Dotnet, java and ASP to create scripts and front end applications.
  • Create tables, views, stored procedures within databases in conjunction with application development.
  • Captures requirements, creates use cases, and prepares written functional specifications for subsequent feasibility analysis, technical design and implementation.
  • Identifies gaps or inefficiencies between business market requirements and existing or proposed solutions and develops recommendations for improvement.
  • Analyse and optimise business and technical processes.
  • Provide application support as required by the business.

The Ideal Candidate:

Skills and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of development/ scripting languages and frameworks such as .NET, Java, asp, xml, xslt.
  • Develop software and work with Oracle and SQL databases.
  • Be able to write and understand database queries.
  • Good analytical skills for problem solving.
  • Ability to produce good quality documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills in order to operate at all levels throughout the organisation.
  • Ability to create working prototypes at a variety of levels of fidelity, independently or as part of a team
  • Flexible, team player, ‘get-it-done’ personality.
  • Ability to plan and organise work independently.
  • Hold a full driving licence as travel to other locations will be required.
  • Business analysis knowledge is desirable but not essential
  • Understand Prince2 and Agile project management methodologies is desirable but not essential
  • Write SSIS packages is desirable but not essential
  • Write stored procedures and functions for databases is desirable but not essential
