Job Introduction:

In 2012 G4S and Lincolnshire Police formed a Strategic Partnership and we are now currently looking for individuals who are interested in joining us as a Senior Driver Trainer.

This is a part time position for 32 hours per week. The hours will be worked across Monday to Friday, these will be discussed and agreed by the line manager with the successful candidate.  The post is based at Lincolnshire Police Headquarters, Nettleham. The benefits of working from this location include; free car parking and 24 hours use of a free gym. 

The ideal candidate will design, develop and deliver courses and materials relating to all levels of Driver Training to Police Officers and staff of Lincolnshire Police. The successful candidate will need to be able to manage, supervise and support the Driver Training team (including any associate trainers) and ensure maximisation of training delivery scheduling and operation. The candidate will provide accurate and timely management information to the Force in relation to the driver status of all police officers and staff and will be required to represent the department at regional and national meetings in respect of driver training.

Role Responsibility:

  • Provide support to the delivery and assessment of training in accordance with national, organisational or Force policies relating to the training of police officers and staff in relation to all aspects of driver training.
  • Represent L&D at national, regional and local meetings in relation to driver training ensuring adherence to legislation and local/regional/national requirements.
  • Manage the Driver Training delivery schedule, planning in courses in line with customer requirements, ensuring trainers are utilised effectively.
  • Ensure that learners have the required skills to successfully, safely and effectively perform the duties of their roles through effective assessment of participants during the training process.
  • Prepare training materials for delivery in accordance with mandatory/legal requirements, updating them as required in line with legislative changes, ensuring correct quality assurance processes are adhered to.
  • Drive the development of new ways of delivering training to maximise performance and ensure the business demonstrates a continuous learning culture.
  • Act in accordance with security, safety and operational instruction at all times to ensure the maintenance of service delivery.
  • Champion ‘continuous professional development’ by keeping up to date with developments in training by reading relevant journals, attending G4S meetings and relevant development courses.
  • Undertake Training Needs Analysis and provide L&D consultancy for internal and external departments and organisations.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues internally and externally to maintain high levels of service delivery to all customers and delegates.
  • Such other duties and responsibilities as they arise that relate to the execution of the role.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Qualified Approved Driving Instructor.
  • Ability to undertake and pass Police Driving Instructors course.
  • Proven experience of both scheduling and delivery.
  • Proven experience of managing a team of trainers.
  • Proven experience of Training Needs Analysis.
  • Excellent written, oral and inter-personal skills and communication skills.
  • Pro-active and positive attitude with a high level of personal resilience.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Experience of and ability to manage workload with conflicting priorities.

Desirable Skills and Knowledge

  • Background in Police response driving.
  • Understanding of Police legislative and recommended standards including APP.
  • Motorcycle and van instructor qualification.
  • Level 3 TAQA assessor qualification or equivalent.
  • A proven track record of meeting / exceeding targets.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to operate in a commercial environment.
