Operations Manager

Gatwick Immigration Removal Centre, Perimeter Road South, Gatwick Airport, West Sussex, RH6 0PQ

Salary : £39,000 per annum

Full-time (40 hours per week)

As the largest private provider of Immigration Services for the UK Border Agency (UKBA), G4S is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for people being detained due to their immigration status. Our Contract locations are situated near Gatwick Airport and can accommodate just under 600 male/female detainees with an ever changing population.

As part of our continuing development, we’re now looking for confident and approachable team players who are committed to providing a high quality service for the people in our care.

The successful candidate will be required to lead, promote and develop best practice in the centres Roles within Operations, Safer Custody and Residential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the day to day running of the Operational requirements within the centres, ensuring that we are compliant with contractual obligations at all times.
  • First line management of all DCM’s within your area of responsibility.
  • Second line management of all DCO’s within the aforementioned groups.
  • Act as duty director when required, including remaining on call overnight, as well as working approximately one weekend in every seven. 
  • Liaise with the Home Office, working closely with the compliance team to ensure we work collaboratively to meet the needs of detainees.
  • Attend and pass the HMPPS incident silver commander course. Assume the role of silver commander when required during incidents.
  • Take responsibility for sickness, absence and disciplinary matters for staff within the group, as directed by the Head of Residential.
  • Working with all functions to manage the detainee population within Brook House showing consideration for individuals who pose an escape risk or have other vulnerabilities or needs.
  • Represent the area at meetings as required both internally and externally, providing a positive image for the centre and the wider G4S group.
  • Deliver initial  training to students on their ITC.
  • Ensure that at all times we provide detainees with a clean, safe and decent environment. 
  • Consistently challenge staff when required in order to continually drive standards within Gatwick IRCs.
  • Manage ordering of stock on a monthly basis, ensuring compliance with budgetary constraints.
  • Assist with recruitment, training and retention of staff as required.
  • Constantly strive to look for innovative ways to improve the experience for detainees housed at Gatwick  IRCs. 

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Skills

  • Management experience within custodial setting 

 

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of project/ work planning, monitoring and reviewing
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and ability to interpret financial information
