Job Introduction:

In 2012 G4S and Lincolnshire Police formed a Strategic Partnership and we are now currently looking for individuals who are interested in joining us as a Infrastructure Technician.

This position is full time for 40 hours per week. The post is based at Lincolnshire Police Headquarters, Nettleham. The benefits of working from this location include; free car parking and 24 hours use of a free gym.

Infrastructure technicians will be responsible for providing operational and technical support to Lincolnshire Police and G4S staff. 

Infrastructure technicians will provide technical support and advice to all users of IT services to ensure that operational issues and queries are diagnosed and resolved as quickly as possible. They will be required to analyse, research and evaluate all areas of Airwave, Telephony, PC, Windows operating system(s), standard/non-standard software and peripheral technology in order to recommend new developments to all Service Areas and Members within a given budget.

In addition to this, the Infrastructure Technician will specify, recommend, provide, configure and implement many varied items of IT equipment and supporting software in accordance with corporate Service Area requirements, IT standards and the IT Security Policy.

Role Responsibility:

  • Provides detailed personal advice and guidance to all users in the effective use of IT systems, products and services available to them.
  • Maintain performance and availability to agreed Service Levels
  • Ensure the timely resolution of incidents, problems, changes as prioritised in agreed Service Levels.
  • Ensure documentation is current and up to date.
  • Ensure users are kept informed of progress at key stages within their request.
  • Ensure that systems remain supportable, expandable, fit for purpose, and capable of delivering ongoing business value and benefit.
  • Sets priorities, monitors progress and applies escalation procedures for incidents, problems and changes not progressing satisfactorily.
  • Takes innovative approaches to problem solving and delivers inventive and creative solutions.
  • Assist with the on-going deployment of VOIP telephony.
  • Take ownership of the technical elements of relevant contracts within the domain.
  • Provide assistance and technical knowledge to aid the implementation of projects.
  • Maintain, configure and monitor telephony systems ensuring availability to all users.
  • Interfacing with vendor support service groups to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded system performance.
  • Maintain, configure and monitor G4S and client radio equipment.
  • Provides out of hours assistance to users and colleagues by participating in the IT out of hours on call service.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Windows desktop operating systems (Win 7-10)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/ PowerPoint/Access etc.)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory inc. Active Directory Security and Distribution Groups, Organisation Units and Group Policy
  • Installation of software packages via a variety of tools e.g. LanDesk / Active Directory
  • Knowledge of Network topologies relating to WAN/LAN including TCPIP, Ethernet, ADSL etc.
  • Knowledge of server architectures including Microsoft Server, DNS, RAID, redundancy.
  • Good working knowledge of VOIP and PABX technology
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills in order to operate at all levels throughout the organisation.
  • Good analytical skills for problem solving.
  • Knowledge of VDI technologies eg; RDS, Citrix etc.
  • Hold a full driving licence as travel to other locations will be required.

Desirable Skills and Knowledge

  • Has a working knowledge of ITIL
  • Has a working knowledge of applications and products from a Policing environment
  • Experience of working with Airwave
