Our Fire Fighters based at Hinkley Point C are the first line of defence in providing emergency response, expert prevention and safety advice to our national infrastructure site.

As a member of the Fire & Rescue team, their role is to work safely, provide risk prevention and when called upon, provide a swift professional response to site emergencies.

Role Responsibility:

Inform and educate the HPC  community to improve awareness of safety matters

o    Promote safety matters to inform the HPC community
o    Facilitate learning through demonstration and instruction

Take responsibility for effective performance

o    Take responsibility for personal performance
o    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with people
o    Develop your own skills to improve performance

Save and preserve endangered life

o    Conduct a search to locate life involved in incidents
o    Rescue life involved in incidents
o    Provide treatment to casualties 
o    Support people involved in rescue operations

Resolve operational incidents

o    Control and extinguish fires
o    Resolve incidents other than those involving fire or hazardous materials
o    Support people involved in an operational incident


Protect the environment from the effects of hazardous materials

o    Mitigate damage to the environment from hazardous materials
o    Decontaminate people and property affected by hazardous materials
o    Support people involved in hazardous materials incidents

Support the effectiveness of operational response

o    Collect information on risks in the HPC community
o    Collect information on resources available within the HPC community
o    Maintain internal resources

Support the development of colleagues in the workplace

o    Communicate your own skills and knowledge to colleagues
o    Support development of colleagues

Contribute to fire safety solutions to minimise risks to the HPC project

o    Inspect work areas and premises to minimise risks to people, property and the environment
o    Report on issues arising from an inspection

Drive, manoeuvre and redeploy Fire & Rescue vehicles

o    Drive vehicle to incidents
o    Manoeuvre, site and re-deploy vehicles

 


The Ideal Candidate:

Skills and Competencies

Essential

o    Safety at Height and Confined Space (SHACS) Level 1
o    Breathing Apparatus – Technical Bulletin 1/97
o    First Person on Scene (FPOS) 
o    UK Driving Licence 
o    Undertake employers physical and medical critical role assessment 

Desirable

o    LGV Emergency Fire Appliance Driver (EFAD)
o    Safety at Height and Confined Space (SHACS) Level 2 
o    Maritime Fire Fighting


Experience

Essential Experience 

o    Preferably 5 years previous fire & rescue experience with either, Local Authority ,Industrial or Aviation Fire & Rescue Services

Desirable Experience

o    Supervisory Fire Operational Experience
