Job Introduction:

In 2012 G4S and Lincolnshire Police formed a Strategic Partnership and we are now currently looking for individuals who are interested in joining us as a Caretaker / Driver.

We are looking for a candidate to undertake general caretaking and porterage duties, including first line maintenance of systems, H&S checks and grounds maintenance as required.  Duties also include driving a variety of vehicles and responsibility for the checking, routine maintenance and cleaning of vehicles and transportation of goods, equipment and personnel to various locations.  The ideal person will be required to create and maintain positive communications to ensure effective working relationships with individuals, teams and colleagues.

Closing Date: 17th October 2017 - 23:45 hours.

Role Responsibility:

  • H&S checks and recording including the testing of lighting, heating and alarm systems and emergency generators, and boiler plant.  Reporting to the Facilities Services Helpdesk when an external contractor is required.
  • Scheduled duties including first line repair and maintenance of fixtures and fittings
  • Porterage duties including the preparation of venues for meetings/conferences/special events including provision and clearance of equipment, drinks etc.  Undertaking office removals as required.
  • Provide and monitor daily consumable stocks as required for example custody supplies, light tubes and sorting of laundry, to ensure a high level of service is maintained.
  • The collation and preparation of waste for disposal, to include transportation where required. Operate and maintain the shredding machine where required.
  • Provide first line response to general equipment failures, to undertake repairs where possible.  Maintain equipment and furniture as required.
  • Assisting with the cleaning of the premises in the absence of the cleaning staff, including kennels as and when required.
  • Grounds maintenance and keeping clean and tidy the building surrounds, including garages and car wash.  Snow clearance and gritting of paths and walkways during bad weather.
  • Perform mail room and general courier duties as required to ensure a smooth running courier and driving service.  Courier duties to include the transportation of l, mail, equipment, property, confidential waste and scrap to various locations. 
  • Collecting and delivering Police vehicles to enable maintenance events to be carried out and any other driving duties.
  • Cleaning Police owned vehicles, conducting checks and routine maintenance of own dedicated vehicles.
  • Monthly monitoring of the bulk fuel levels to ensure fuel stocks are maintained.
  • Undertake periodic destructions of firearms using  the Force chopping machine

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Hold a full driving licence for manual cars including category D1 – up to and including 7.5 kg vehicles
  • Experience and confidence of driving a variety of vehicles
  • Experience of general DIY and equipment maintenance
  • Demonstrate driving skills in order to pass the police basic driving test
  • Practical building maintenance skills
  • Good communication skills – written and verbal
  • Be a competent user of Microsoft Office packages
  • Good organisational skills – able to plan, prioritise and coordinate activities
  • Problem solving ability
  • Self-motivated, and focused on achieving high levels of performance
  • Able to balance conflicting demands, with a willing, flexible and adaptable approach
  • Physically fit and able to undertake manual handling and other physical requirements of the post

Desirable Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience of caretaking and grounds maintenance
  • Experience and knowledge of routine vehicle checks and cleaning
  • Basic knowledge of electrics, plumbing and/or joinery
  • Able to develop strong working relationships at all levels
